Denotation is the literal dictionary definition of a word. Connotation is the implied meaning and the cultural or emotional suggestions of a word. Directions: Write a word in the shaded box. Then write the denotative and connotative definitions below. Finally, draw a quick sketch that you associate with the word, and then label it as denotative or connotative.
