Sequence the information into three parts. When the shapes overlap, explain what happened during the transition from one step to the next. This could also be used for writing a three-paragraph essay, with the overlap area being the transitions between paragraphs.

This writing method helps students organize each part of the paragraph. A graphic organizer is used to organize the pre-writing phase, and then takes students through the steps of the writing process. This method can be applied to expository, narrative, persuasive, and descriptive forms of writing. It is easily modified to meet a variety of needs and age groups.
Denotation is the literal dictionary definition of a word. Connotation is the implied meaning and the cultural or emotional suggestions of a word. Directions: Write a word in the shaded box. Then write the denotative and connotative definitions below. Finally, draw a quick sketch that you associate with the word, and then label it as denotative or connotative. Suggested words for practice: Snake, Childish, Cheap and Chicken
In the beehive pyramid, list the steps of a process, and then summarize them in the box below.
This list of capitalization rules could be printed and posted in the classroom or given to students to put in the front of their binders.
Date your notes Keep an organized system so you can easily go back and review. Leave space on each page to add details later.
Develop your own shorthand You can’t write everything down, so learn to write the key terms and headline information. Use phrases rather than complete sentences. You aren’t graded on your grammar; so don’t take the extra time to construct perfect sentences.
Draw and use symbols Feel free to use symbols, icons and drawings if it helps. For some people, drawing is a great way to retain information. Similarly, highlighters and different ink colors can also help you separate information. [Continue...]
